Wohlsen Construction Celebrates New Operations Center Opening
Wohlsen Construction Company has grown significantly in recent years and 60 of its 225 employees are expanding into a new LEED certified, state of the art, operations center located on the south east corner of the Manheim Pike and Steel Way. Another 40 employees will remain in the existing Wohlsen office and equipment yard located at the southwest intersection of the Manheim Pike and Steel Way.
In place of a ribbon cutting ceremony, the event will be celebrated by employees each carrying one of the 95 Excellence in Construction Eagle trophies that Wohlsen has been awarded by the Associated Builders & Contractors over the past 21 years, across the Manheim Pike to their new home.
The 16” high bronze sculptures weigh 20 pounds and boxing and moving them via truck was an option. But … why not “fly them across” the Manheim Pike instead?
“We discussed a traditional ribbon cutting,” according to Laena Capps, Director of Administrative Services, “but then I thought, why not fly the Eagles across the street as a symbol of the excellence in construction for which our company is known?”
The new operations center will open for business on Monday morning, June 20, 2011.
Both of the Wohlsen properties are located within the City of Lancaster. Wohlsen is proud that its headquarters have been located in the city since its founding in 1890.
The new 18,000 square foot operations center will have LEED Silver Certification, featuring a solar array on the roof, as well as state of the art technical equipment including smart boards, videoconferencing, and wireless.
The expansion will promote efficiency by eliminating existing crowded conditions and off campus rented office space.
