Manufacturing plant for truck axles involving:

• Reinforced concrete foundations
• Steel frame with long-span steel joists
• Climate-controlled heating and air conditioning

Unusual requirements and process:

• Extremely tight schedule, with ground breaking in November for production start-up beginning April 1
• Site preparation involved 1-1/2 months of continuous cut-and-fill, with simultaneous trenching and grading
• Erected a 300-yard long inflatable building to keep out winter while pouring concrete
• Up to 280 workers at the site at one time
• Two crews erected structural steel in a few weeks
• Completed one end of the plant for production start-up, while finishing remainder of building
