Project Description

Demolition of existing school and construction of a new school on a tight urban site that serves as both a public elementary school as well as home to the Gateway School for Agriculture, Ecology, and Science including:

  • Media center
  • Health suite
  • Classrooms
  • Special education classrooms
  • Art and music classrooms
  • Library
  • Cafeteria
  • Gymnasium
  • Courtyard
  • Administrative and guidance offices
  • 68-space parking garage under the building

Sustainable building features included:

  • Salvage and reuse of architectural elements
  • American Hydrotech Fluid Applied vegetated green roof
  • Biodetention / rain garden

Classroom wings were constructed using modular sections that were built off site and shipped to the site for erection.  The remaining portions of the building were constructed on site using conventional methods.
